Personal Information

Prof. Bamitale Omole is a distinguished Professor of International Relations and an Indigene of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, educational administrator, and former Vice- Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria from 2011-2016.

He received a BA (History) and M. Sc (International Relations ) from the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and an MPhil and PhD in Political Science/International Relations from the University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France.

Prof Bamitale Omole also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Law and Organisation for Development from The Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherland. Additionally, he holds a Diploma in French Language from CAVILAM, Vichy, France.

Prof Omole also holds a Certificate in Fundraising Fundamentals, Certificate in University Research Management and a Certificate in Executive Leadership for University Management. Before serving as the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof Omole was the Vice-Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Administration and a two term member of the Governing Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He also served on a number of government Boards.

In 2014, he was the INEC Chief Returning Officer for the Osun State Gubernatorial Election. As an international academic, Professor Omole served as a Visiting Fellow, The Korean Foundation, Seoul, South Korea. He was at various times a Visiting Fellow at the Centre d’Etudes d’Afrique Noire, Institute d’Etudes Politique, Bordeaux, France. He is also a laureate of the United States of America International Visitors Leadership Program, Washington DC, USA. In the course of an illustrious academic career, Professor Bamitale Omole has won different scholarships, Fellowships, Grants and Awards. Amongst these are: Federal Government Scholarship, Western State of Nigeria Scholarship Award, French Government Fellowship “Bourse de Sejour Scientific de Haut Niveau en Science Politique”, The Netherland Government Scholarship, Korean Foundation Fellowship, USIA/Ford Foundation Award, Fellowship Award of the Centre International d’Etudes Scientifique (CIES) Paris, France, and a UNESCO Fellowship at the Centre for Advice, Research and Educational Rights Malawi.

A bold and thorough administrator and reformer with great strength in fundraising and networking, Prof. Omole spearheaded various innovative and landmark initiatives during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor leading to the University being ranked the BEST in Nigeria for THREE CONSECUTIVE YEARS during his tenure. His tenure was focused on promoting excellence in teaching and research across academic fields and the rapid infrastructural development of the University.

An International Relations Expert by training, Professor Omole’s wide area of policy and academic interest is in International Economic Relations, International Relations of the Francophone States, Africa and Globalisation, Development and Democratic Studies. He has published extensively on these themes in various Nigerian and International journals.

Professor Omole professional work includes consultancies with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, AfDB and UNESCO. He is a member of many professional organizations and serves on the boards of a number of profit and non-profit organizations. A widely travelled academic, Prof Bamitale Omole has travelled to over thirty countries in Africa, Europe, USA and His Family is Blessed with Children.
